On February 26th, the New Hampshire Fulbright Chapter and Saint Anselm College hosted a musical event titled “Guitar in Latin America” presented by Jose Lezcano, PhD. The event showcased the guitar as an instrument that speaks many languages in Latin American music, featuring a variety of musical styles from indigenous strummers in ritual festivals in Ecuador to Gaucho music from Argentina, European parlor waltzes from Venezuela, and Afro-Cuban contradanzas. Lezcano also played pieces by renowned composers such as Villa-Lobos, Brouwer, Lauro, Barrios, Pereira, Cervantes, and shared examples from his Fulbright-funded research in Ecuador. The event was held at the Dana Center for the Humanities in Manchester, New Hampshire, and incorporated multimedia elements to enhance the audience’s experience.
